Stift und Zettel / Pen and Paper
Der erweiterte Zeichnungsbegriff / The augemented concept of drawing

December 17, 2010 - January 30, 2011

Pen and paper, that's all you need to make a drawing. One could think. Yet the spectrum of what can be considered a drawing is immense. The exhibition's title is thus meant to be a charming understatement. The works of the eleven participating artists demonstrate that drawing can in fact burst all borders. As a paper sculpture that could be seen as a reminiscent of unfinished drawings from a material point of view or as cut out drawings hanging over racks in the exhibition space. As a video of areoplanes drawing lines into the sky, as framed drawings that unfold into the room or as drawings that create a space if as wall or as projection. Lines made from textiles stand naturally side by side with those made with graphite, ink and pen. The exhibition reveals that a small sketch, a note with pen on paper is only the starting point of works that carry the concept of drawing beyond its own borders. All those not knowing what drawing can be up to will be convinced: Drawing is not just a preparatory or even secondary medium but a genre on its own with the option of producing outstanding œvres.
