Works

spadong, Video, 5:00min, Japan/Italy, 2008/2009 (still images)

By superimposing two semi-transparent video sequences of a Japanese and an Italian eating noodles and pasta - Udong and Spaghetti respectively - a surprising concordance of these two apparently so distinct cultures becomes obvious.

transient, Video, 5:15min, Austria, 2009 (still images)

The work transient was inspired by the similar aesthetics of natural and industrial phenomena based on water vapour: Clouds passing overmountain ridges and fog emerging over forest on one hand and the smoking and steaming chimneys of the industrial plants on the the other hand. transient considers the possibility of a logical or even causal relation between these phenomena, that is not necessarily critical or motivated by ecological issues.

fog's trot, Video, 2:59min, Austria, 2009 (still image)

A phenomenon occurring at the end of a sunny day and caused by the drop in temperature and the resulting redistribution of air layers is visualized through an extreme time lapse: The emerging fog is not simply coming up or going down but moving back and forth, increasing and decreasing in density. By the accelerated pace the movement adopts a dynamic, almost rhythmic character that stands in irritating contradiction to the ephemeral nature of fog.

icecove, Video, 3:31min, Newfoundland, 2007 (still image)

The work shows the view onto an ice plane in a lurid yet diffuse light, stretching out to the horizon. At first sight the scenery seems to be massive and static. Yet, the second sight is irritating: Is it an optical illusion or actual movement that one is perceiving?
Soon it gets clear: One is looking not at a closed surface of pack ice but onto a dense packing of pieces thereof in the cove, that follow smoothly the movement of the waves of the water underneath.

blackberg, Video, 2:12min, Newfoundland, 2007(still image)

A large, black, rock-like object is lying in a dark oily liquid being partly overwashed by it; or - surprisingly - rather it is floating as it is moving back and forth. It is the inverse image of an iceberg in the surge, caught near the shore.

jellyfire - an audio-visual installation, Sound by WELTAUSSTELLUNG
Institut fuer Kuenstlerhaushaltentwicklungen, Oberhuasen, 2008

The animation carries us off into a strange world inhabitated by an alien species: the luminous structures are floating weightless in black open space, bioluminescent lifeforms - or cosmic phenomena?
The glowing, jellyfish-like textures stem from pictures of fireworks - creating jellyfire.

earthskyearth - an audio-visual installation
Kuenstlerzeche Unser Fritz, Herne, 2006

The light structures on the speres originate from collages of aerial night views of the Ruhr area. By projecting them onto spheres, a new sort of astronomic objects is created: massive as planets yet glowing on their own like stars - and the light emerging from electricity and not chemical reactions.
One can interprete them as earth-like planets lacking a sun - and thus daylight. If they are of natural or artificial origin remains unclear.
