Donja Nasseri is a German, Egyptian, and Afghan artist. Her work provokes critical reflections on the intertwined histories and narratives that shape our understanding of (gender) identity, trauma, and disruption. She focuses on the reactivation of materials sourced from museums, archives, and communities. For instance, she seeks to initiate dialogue about the impact of colonialism and the imperative of restitution and reparation. She studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, the Kunstakademie Münster, and TU Dortmund. Her work has received numerous awards, including the Chargesheimer Stipend in Cologne for media art, Foam New Talent in Amsterdam, the Van Bommel Award in Venlo, and project funding in 2024 from the Circle of Friends of the House of Photography in Hamburg. She is also part of the FUTURES Photography platform for 2024 and 2025.
