Steven Natusch is an artist working in the field of contemporary photography. His work focuses on the visual and text-based reflection of human emotions and existential questions from an autobiographical and partly autofictional perspective. His exploration of the interpretation and grammar of photographic images as well as non-linear narrative strategies is evident in their interpretation. The image as a visual-lyrical medium finds its place within Steven's work as a metaphor, reference or blank space. While the tense relationship with time is inherent in photography, it also extends beyond his working cosmos and manifests itself in recurring confrontations with time-based, tension-filled states. He studied photography (BA) at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts with Susanne Brügger and photography and visual culture at IADE Lisboa (BA) under José Luis Neto. His work has been presented internationally, including at Emerging Artists Dortmund, Dortmunder U (2021), Don't dream it's Over, Künstlerhaus Dortmund (2022), OFFGRID Photo Festival Vienna (2022), PhMuseum Days, Bologna (2022), Rotterdam Photo Festival (2023), Charta Festival, Rome (2023), re:vue, Galeries Huit, Arles (2023). Stevens' work has also been nominated for several awards, including the IMAGO Lisboa Portfolio Award (2021), Gomma New Flavour Award (2022), Charta Award (2023), and twice for the (Kassel) Dummy Award (2022, 2023). In 2022, he was among the Top 100 Emerging Photographers of Europe (GUP Magazine) and in 2024 he was one of the 20 finalists for the Carte Blanche Award at Paris Photo.
