The phenomenon of trauma is now omnipresent and has entered the consciousness of the wider public. Public debates are increasingly allowing us to look behind the facades. Things become heated when the horror that has been uncovered comes to light. Yet the closest companion of trauma is the silence of those affected. This silence surrounding trauma forms the core of Anna Papoulias’s academic and artistic research in recent years.
Trauma and silence are usually associated with negative characteristics. Is this really the case? Or does this phenomenon also conceal a creative dimension, a dynamic of its own that is not apparent at first glance? In her research, the artist has focused her curiosity on the creative potential and opportunities that may lie hidden within this trauma-induced silence.
In her lecture-performance, she links neurobiological insights with her own highly personal, artistic search for clues and her exploration of her own trauma-induced silence. This also addresses the question of how that which cannot be said can nevertheless find expression. Her artistic research has unearthed Wortbrocken, which will be recited as part of Anna Zirr’s performance.
