Cornelius Grau (1986) studierte von 2008 – 2015 Freie Kunst an der Staatlichen Kunstakademie Düsseldorf in der Klasse von Prof. Richard Deacon. 2011 absolvierte er ein Gastsemester an der HfBK Dresden bei Prof. Monika Brandmeier. Er schloss das Studium mit dem Akademiebrief und der Ernennung zum Meisterschüler von Prof. Richard Deacon ab.
Seine Werke aus Holz und Leinwandstoff befassen sich fast immer mit einfachen Alltagsgegenständen und naiven Phantasien. Die Objekte haben per se einen hohen Wiedererkennungswert. Zeitgleich sind sie aber kontrastreich und knallbunt in klaren Linien und Flächen abstrahiert und überinszeniert und gaukeln einen ironischen und scheinbar unbedarften Umgang mit dem Kunstbegriff und seinen elitären Überhöhungen vor. Folglich werden vor allem die angeblich „kleinen“ und „belanglosen“ Aspekte des Lebens neu in Szene gesetzt. Cornelius Grau hatte zahlreiche Ausstellungen und Ausstellungsbeteiligungen im Inland und vereinzelt auch international.
